Knight Tours Marin Hi-ways
Governor Goodwin Knight made an inspection tour of Marin county this week to study the county’s traffic problems. The tour started at the Golden Gate bridge and the next stop was the Waldo widening project where Governor Knight inspected the new Waldo tunnel. He also took a look at the Richardson Bay bridge work now underway and at Alta intersection and went over plans for construction of a cloverleaf scheduled to start next year. The governor predicted that construction of additional interchanges at Corte Madera and Greenbrae will alleviate Marin’s traffic problems. Director of Public Works Frank Durkee said this would “completely relieve them”. Following the tour the governor authorized Durkee to go ahead with plans and studies necessary for financing and constructing the lower deck of the Richmond-San Rafael bridge now being built.
