I was surprised to see this in the PERSONAL MENTION column of the 24 October 1919 Santa Rosa Press Democrat. It seems that Miss Lewis has been publicly shamed by the newspaper. While they normally report casual comings and goings, business and vacation trips, this is the only time I’ve seen something like this:
Miss Josephine Lewis, formerly assistant secretary of
the Chamber of Commerce, has returned home after spending
some nine months in San Francisco. She will remain
here for the present.
While there is no “proof” this was the paper’s intent, both my wife and I think it must be so. Searching forward in time from this date, Miss Lewis is mentioned in work by the Red Cross and other social events up to about 1925, when she was married to Henry Grohe of Santa Rosa.
