— Information was given at the Police office yesterday, that a negro had been robbed by a hackman whose name we did not learn, but who is known by the name of “Sinbad,” an appropriate name, if the account given of him is correct. It appears that the negro arrived on the Stockton boat, on Tuesday night, and engaged Sinbad’s hack to convey him to a friend’s house on Washington street. When they reached the house, the negro asked how much he was to pay. The hackman replied $10. The negro made no demonstration against the horrible extortion, but handed the driver a $20 piece, which the latter very coolly pocketed, and mounting his carriage, drove off at full speed. There are no witnesses, and the negro’s word cannot be taken in evidence.
