— The value of the real and personal estate of the United States, is reported for the year 1856, by Mr. Secretary Guthric, at $11,317,611,672 — that is over eleven and a quarter billions of dollars. The total population is 26,961,312 souls; and one share for each in Uncle Sam’s possessions would be a little over four hundred dollars. We know several stockholders who would like to sell out — we prefer, however, to wait for a rise.

Oroville Amusements. — The bull and bear fight which came off at Oroville on Saturday last, is thus described by the Record: The fight was commenced with much spirit by the bovine beast, much to the terror and inconvenience of poor bruin, and the delight of the refined and discriminating spectators. The unfortunate beast of the forest was made the recipient of plenty of stiff horns, which, however, he seemed in no mood to consider in the light of cornucopiae but growled and snapped incessantly as they were presented, but finally weakened under their influence. A separation between the brutal contestants soon ensued, and the entertainment concluded with sundry abortive attempts, on the part of certain youthful aspirants, to climb an oleaginous pole, at the top of which was placed a tempter in the shape of a purse containing fifty dollars. Universal satisfaction was evinced by the patrons, who, with one accord, voted the performance no ” steamboat.”
