Monday morning brought with it, as usual, a full at-
tendance at His Honor’s levee. Faces of every hue and
color, more or less battered up. exhibited themselves in
the dock, to be greeted by the dignified smile of Judge
Waller.
John Murphy got drunk, got on a fast horse, rode
through the streets, fell off his horse, and was fined $10.
James Gouty drank a great deal too much rum for his
own comfort, and laid down to sleep beneath the shadow
of the jail, from which he was aroused by an officer. He
was discharged, it being shown that he was usually a
hardworking man, and was not in the habit of getting
drunk.
Augustus Ennis, a colored gentleman, was charged
with drawing a pistol in a gambling house on Kearny
street, after having lost his money. Decision reserved.
John Palmer got drunk and drew a knife on the com-
munity in general, for which he was fined $25
James Ryan got into a fight on Long Wharf, and was
fined $25.
J. Melvil was charged by James Ryan with attempting
to strike him with an axe for which he was fined $25.
William Forward was charged by his wife with an as-
sault and battery upon her and putting her out of doors
in the night. This is an old trick of Mr. Forward’s and
he has been up several times charged with the same of-
fence for which he was fined $50.
