NEW YORK, December 4th.
While the United States Marshals were
guarding an illicit whisky establishment
Saturday, a disturbance was created in the
rear thereof. The police were called, and
when they entered the rectifying house the
Marshals and police were locked in. Then
the street swarmed with men ; an entrance
was effected into the distillery, and the
Marshals returning to their posts were hur-
ried into alleys and hallways by bands of
roughs and held there till the removal of
the liquor had been effected, when the
whole crowd disappeared as quickly at it
had gathered. When the police arrived
they found not a soul upon the street.
