WASHINGTON, Oct. 1.—Approximately 3500 Japanese prisoners of war now are being transferred to the San Joaquin valley in California for harvest work, the War Department disclosed today. The Japanese are being taken from Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, and Camp Clarinda, Iowa, at the request of Gov. Earl Warren and California members of congress because of the urgent need for agricultural workers. When they no longer are needed for agricultural work in California, the Japanese prisoners will be returned to Japan.
