Perjury. – About ten days since Jacob Spingler was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor, for writing an obscene letter in German to a young woman named Jennie Rohl. He was tried in the Police Court and fined $100. On the trial Spingler testified that he could neither write nor read German. Since then it has been ascertained that he could read and write, and that the letter sent to the young woman is in his handwriting.
Last evening officers Green and Lindheimer went to Spingler’s saloon, on Montgomery street, arrested him and brought him to the Station House, where a charge of perjury was entered against him.
