Ernest Camin had on exhibition in his store this week, a quantity of live fresh water snails raised on the old Camin ranch in Cathey’s Valley. The “seed” was planted in a spring on the ranch by Mr. Camin’s father who brought them from France a number of years ago. These snails,as food, are considered quite a delicacy by the French people and as they seem to thrive in this climate quite an industry in “snail farming” might be built up.
(The brown snail went on to become an invasive pest in northern California, with no natural predators to keep the population in check.)
